Context

Why it matters

Primary school environments play an important role in children's emotional development, relationships, and readiness for learning.

As schools navigate increasing emotional, behavioural, and SEMH needs alongside growing pressures on staff wellbeing, regulation-aware and relational approaches are playing an increasingly important role in creating calmer, more connected, and sustainable learning environments for both staff and children.

When staff feel equipped and confident, children feel safer and safer children learn better.

Nervous system understanding helps staff respond rather than react in moments of escalation

Co-regulation is foundational. Children learn to self-regulate through regulated adults

Emotionally safe classrooms improve engagement and readiness to learn

Relational approaches support staff wellbeing and sustainable teaching practice

About

Naomi

QTS Early Childhood Education Trauma-Informed Practice Children's Mental Health

I have a background in Early Childhood Education alongside Qualified Teacher Status, with experience across primary school and early years settings. I have also coordinated a local literacy charity, working with schools and community organisations to explore barriers to learning and engagement.

Alongside my educational experience, I have undertaken further training in trauma-informed practice and children's mental health, deepening my interest in regulation, co-regulation, and the impact this has on classroom climate.

My approach combines educational understanding with practical, regulation-aware strategies that support both staff and pupils. I am particularly interested in how schools can create calmer, more connected learning environments where regulation, emotional safety, and learning can work together in sustainable and meaningful ways.
